About Us

The spotted wing Drosophila (SWD), Drosophila suzukii, is a highly invasive pest of soft fruit and berries in Europe and North America. Since being detected in Europe and North America in 2008, the population has continued to spread and was first detected in Sweden in 2014. This pest can have a devastating impact on fruit and berry industry, and our group of researchers, advisors and growers are working together to find the most effective pest control measures.

The aim of this website is to provide up-to-date information on SWD in Sweden, and to establish communication between growers, advisors and researchers. The aim of our project is to develop an effective and environmentally-sound pest management strategy for Drosophila suzukii. This includes monitoring for early detection, and targeted, species-specific pest control that will minimize any negative impact on the environment and non-target insects.
